Following extensive community consultation, a new Trust Deed was adopted in June 2024.

This Deed reduced the size of the Trust Board from over 30 members to a maximum of 15 Trustees, comprising:

  • One representative from each clinic community area
  • Three iwi representatives
  • Up to two co-opted Trustees, if required

The new Trustees formally commenced their roles in October 2024.

Community Representative Forum

The new Trust Deed also established a Community Representative Forum.
The purpose of the Forum is to strengthen positive and meaningful interaction between whānau, community clinic areas, and Hauora Hokianga Trust, supporting improved health and wellbeing outcomes.

Each clinic area may elect one Community Representative to gather feedback and provide community perspectives to the Trust.

Māori Health Provider

Hauora Hokianga Trust is recognised as a Māori Health Provider, delivering holistic, integrated, and equitable health and wellbeing services that are grounded in kaupapa Māori and shaped by the unique needs of the Hokianga community.

The Trust is Māori-owned and Māori-governed (though not exclusively Māori) and provides services to a predominantly Māori population. The Trust Deed requires Māori governorship to be maintained at all times.

Trust Meetings

The Trust Board meets regularly in accordance with the Trust Deed.

Meetings focus on strategic leadership, organisational performance, financial sustainability, risk management, and alignment with the Trust’s kaupapa and community aspirations.
