The Board has approved the release of several important documents that provide an update on the future direction and financial position of Hauora Hokianga.
The documents are now available below (click on them)
The Five-Year Strategic Plan sets out our priorities for the next five years and includes a summary of the Board-led review, which is also attached. The BDO report provides an independent assessment of the financial challenges facing Hauora Hokianga and the proposed recovery plan. The community hui document records the Board’s approved responses to questions raised at the recent public hui in Rawene.
Releasing this information reflects our commitment to being open and transparent with our staff, whānau and community. It is important that people understand the pressures facing Hauora Hokianga, how we reached this position, the decisions being made and the work underway to strengthen our future.
The key messages are:
- Rawene Hospital is not closing.
- Hauora Hokianga is facing significant financial, workforce and service sustainability pressures.
- Long-standing underfunding of hospital, urgent care and after-hours services is a major contributor to these pressures.
- The Board has approved a recovery plan focused on strengthening services, improving financial sustainability and diversifying our sources of revenue.
- We remain committed to protecting access to essential healthcare for whānau across the Hokianga.
- We will continue to keep staff and the community informed as this work progresses.
Printed copies of these documents will be available at our clinics from next week.
We encourage all community members to read the information so you understand the challenges we face, the work underway and the messages being shared publicly.
