Kōwhai (Sophora microphylla): The bark of the kōwhai tree is used to clean and heal sore muscles, sprains, and skin rashes, but it is toxic and must NOT be taken internally or in food or drink.

When the kōwhai is blossoming, it is a sign that the kina are fat.

Extractions made from kōwhai have also been known to help with smoking addictions.
