Food Forest Zone

Mown kikuyu and buttercup were transformed by the Te Kapehu i te Kāinga group and many volunteers, who turned this space into a lush jungle of banana, taro, inga bean, tamarillo, rhubarb, and berries.

Mexican sunflower and Abyssinian bananas create visual contrast and microclimates for the fruit trees.

Once unproductive grass now feeds our patients and whānau, and provides many opportunities for people to learn, connect, and be involved with the project.

Students and whānau from Te Kura Taumata o Panguru work hard throughout the year to build the gardens and grow kai to be shared across the Hokianga.
