Pā Kōrari
He repo te Pā Kōrari i mua, he whenua mākū.
He Taonga Kohatu e tohu ana i tēnei wāhi, e hono ana i ngā ao mārama me te wāhi ngaro, e whakaata ana i te pito mata o tō tātou ao.
Flax Zone
The Pā Kōrari (Flax Zone) is a wetland that used to be a damp, grassy area.
The kōrari now provide materials for raranga (weaving) at the marae, rongoā, habitat, and a link to the past flax industry when local Māori sold kōrari to early European visitors. A Taonga Kohatu marks this space, creating connections between the natural elements and unseen realms, reflecting the potential in our world.
The Pā Kōrari makes the connection between the realms of Tāne and Tangaroa as the waters flow gently down to the harbour. Flax and oioi help to clean the surface runoff and absorb water into the whenua as it travels toward the sea.
